8th Open Tae Kwon-Do World Championships

NIA,Birmingham, England. June 30 July 1 2007

This weekend Tae Kwon-Do International hosted the 8th Open Tae Kwon-Do World Championships -the largest TKD World Champioships ever held.
The event was held at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England and featured over 2500 competitors from both ITF and WTF style Tae Kwon-Do.

People travelled from both near and far to take part in this prestigious two day event, with competitors attending from over 40 countries, including Poland, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Canada, Australia, Nepal, Rep. of Ireland, Northern Ireland,  Scotland, Wales and Switzerland  to name a few. We were also honoured with the presence of a team of fighters from Korea. and Bristol.

The entire weekend was a fantastic success and we would like to extend our thanks to Tae Kwon-Do International, The TAGB committee and all of the Officials who gave up their time to ensure the event was such a great success.

Bristol Academy students worked really hard and managed to come away with a good haul of medals.

Alex Pelsis - Gold in Patterns
Brodie Stevens  - Silver in individual sparring , Bronze in Team Sparring
Alex Wines - Silver in Team Sparring
Danielle Oberhansli - Bronze in Team Sparring
Amy Revill - Bronze in individual Sparring

Other competitors from Bristol Academy did really well, even though they didn't manage to bag the medals!

We'd also like to give a special mention and congratulations to two friends of Bristol Academy

Adam Brown from Bridgewater gained a hard fought Bronze in WTF sparring. Congratulations Adam!

Master Guiseppe Romeo from Italy, who also picked up a bronze in WTF sparring. He later managed to lose his squad jacket to Danielle in one of the cheekiest and daring swaps ever made. Then poor chap only stopped for a photo!
He proved himself to be an absolute star and a credit to Tae Kwon-Do. Every one from Bristol Academy are proud to have met Master Romeo and would like to thank him for his good humour and kindness.

Finally, a big thanks and congratulations to every single competitor who stepped into the ring. This really was your event!
